Who We Support

We support all areas of Barnsley Hospital, from maternity to end of life care. You can let us know if you wish to support a particular area of the hospital and we will ensure your donation is ringfenced for them.

Areas we support

Maternity, Babies and Children
End of Life Care

Maternity, Babies and Children

At Barnsley Hospital Charity we support our maternity, neonatal (premature babies), birthing centre, Rainbow Room and Children’s ward, outpatients and paediatric Emergency Department.

In September 2014, we launched an appeal to help relocate and develop the neonatal unit here at Barnsley Hospital. On Valentines Day 2020 your support meant that the £1,000,000 target for our Tiny Hearts Appeal was achieved and we continue to support the unit with state-of-the-art equipment and items that make a stay a little easier. Our youngest patients can be admitted at just 27 weeks old and may stay with us for up to 13-14 weeks. The unit has allowed Barnsley Hospital to provide the extra care and support for both our smallest patients and families staying during this time.

Recently, for babies, children and young people, your donations have made a difference by funding:

  • Toys for children’s areas
  • Refurbishment of our Rainbow Room (supporting families with the sad loss of their baby)
  • Transforming children’s outpatients blood room
  • Providing care packs for all parents on Neonatal Unit to ease what can be a stressful time

Adults

At Barnsley Hospital Charity we support our patients in all of the ward areas, including outpatients, Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit.

On an average year, Barnsley Hospital supports over 67,000 inpatients.

Recently for adults, your donations have made a difference by funding:

  • 8 beds for overnight family stays
  • 78 televisions for our adult wards
  • A new activity room with electronic games table for older patients and those living with dementia as part of our Make a Memory Appeal on ward 19
  • Transform a room for relatives in our Emergency Department

End of Life Care

At Barnsley Hospital Charity we work closely with our End of Life. Palliative Care, Patient Experience and Chaplaincy teams to support patients and their families with end of life care.

Recently, your donations have made a difference by funding:

  • Improvements to Barnsley Hospital chapel whose team provide a comforting presence at times of distress and anxiety and reflect upon loss and grief
  • Wedding packages to support emergency relationship blessings or blessing at marriage ceremonies during a critical time
  • End of life care packs for relatives with useful items which are needed at this often difficult time
